Whisky business might be an alternate title for your biography, your love of the blended grain goes so deep. You've tried all the best in the Western hemisphere and now it's time to give Japanese whisky a try. In 1918, Masataka Taketsuru left his family's sake brewery to study the art of whisky-making at the University of Glasgow — becoming the first Japanese person to ever to make whisky in Scotland, and soon after found himself at some of the country's most prestigious distilleries. When he returned to Japan, he was the first master distiller at Suntory before opening his own shop, Nikka Whisky Co., in 1934 — much to the delight of whisky fans everywhere. Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky is a meticulously crafted whisky that more closely resembles blended Irish whisky than Scotch, a result of the Coffey Stills and traditional oak casks used in distillation. It's a flavorful and complex whisky, with soft hints of vanilla, caramel, and dried fruit, that earned the title of Japanese Whisky of the Year in 2014 at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
