Well, if the bride-to-be has it her way we have a pretty good idea as to what guests will be offered when they belly up to the royal open bar.
Meghan Markle has expressed in several interviews a love affair with one of our favorites, Tignanello. Or as its beloved followers call it simply - Tig. This cult-status bottle is the poster child for a famous wine type titled Super Tuscan.
What is a Super Tuscan?
Back in the 1970s a bunch of rebellious Italian winemakers in Tuscany realized that the rules of the game were holding them back from making the highest quality juice. Historically, to be called a Tuscan wine they were required to exclusively use indigenous Italian grapes - think the Sangiovese grape which makes up Chianti.
However, this group of modern thinkers felt the quality of their wine could be greatly improved by creating a blend of indigenous with non-indigenous grapes namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. They weren’t wrong. The wines they created using this method were rich, balanced, beautiful and had a wealth of potential for age-ability. The Italian government however didn’t agree that these were technically Tuscan Italian wines and a long battle ensued.
You can take our wine labels, but you will never take our freedom!
Eventually, after many years of pressure and perseverance in 1992 they created a special designation for these out-of-the-box style Tuscan wines titled IGT. The first IGT wine is Meghan's favsies Tignanello made by the Antinori family using a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It’s the first wine that gave Meghan Markle’s that a-ha wine moment as she stated in her interview with People.
What else will be on the menu?
A few of her other favorites include several Sonoma region finds including Pinot Noir and our friends over at Jordan who put the Alexander Valley on the map with their iconic Cabernet. Additionally, Oregon Pinot Noir and of course, dry Rosé, like any other warm blooded American girl. It sounds to us like Meghan’s priorities are in the right place.
